Winsor & Newton Promarkers – a series that unites art and design

Winsor & Newton Promarkers are a true classic among today’s creatives. They are tools that combine precise lines, smooth colour transitions, and a professional finish. The Promarker family offers something for every artist, whether the goal is a detailed design illustration or a painterly watercolour effect.

Historical background

The story of Promarkers began at the British company Letraset, known for its high-quality design markers. When Winsor & Newton acquired Letraset’s marker division in 2012, Promarker production was moved into their portfolio, and the series was redesigned and expanded.

Since then, Promarkers have become one of W&N’s most popular product lines, used by professional designers as well as creative hobby artists.

What makes Promarkers special

Promarkers are known for their alcohol-based ink, which dries quickly and allows for the creation of transparent layers. This will enable colours to blend smoothly and gradients to form without flooding the paper. All markers are double-ended: a broad chisel tip for covering larger areas and a fine tip for detailed work.
In addition to alcohol markers, the series includes water-based Promarker Metallic, Promarker Neon, and Promarker Watercolour markers, which offer special effects and watercolour-like washes.

The Promarker range

Promarker (classic)

Alcohol-based marker with two tips: a broad chisel tip and a fine bullet tip. Suitable for illustration, design, and drawing.

Promarker Brush

Contains the same ink as the classic Promarker but replaces the fine tip with a flexible brush tip, allowing more painterly strokes and dynamic colour flow.

Promarker Metallic

A water-based marker with opaque metallic ink that works on both light and dark paper, adding a luxurious sheen and depth. It features two tips – a fine drawing tip and a shorter, firmer brush tip – for both precise lines and solid metallic coverage.

Promarker Neon

A water-based marker with fluorescent colours for those who want to add brightness and striking effects to their work. These markers also have a fine tip and a shorter, slightly firmer brush tip for controlled yet energetic strokes and intense accents.

Promarker Watercolour

A water-soluble marker that combines the qualities of watercolour and marker. It first appeared in the Winsor & Newton range in 2015 under the name Water Colour Marker, and officially became part of the Promarker series in 2020.

The versatility of Promarkers

Promarkers are suitable for a wide range of fields: fashion design, graphics, illustration, painting, and even architectural sketching. They allow the creation of both precise lines and soft colour tones that add character and depth to artwork.

The series continues to evolve, bridging traditional art and contemporary illustration. Each marker is designed to support artistic freedom and creativity.
