Fun Printing with Watercolour Markers and Airplac Foam Board

Looking for a creative way to make unique cards or wrapping paper? Soft foam printing is a fun and simple technique that’s perfect even for kids – all you need is a bit of imagination and a few exciting tools. You can design your own printing plate, making every piece truly one of a kind.

You will need:

  • Airplac Core foam board
  • A firm graphite pencil (e.g. HB–2H)
  • Watercolour markers or felt-tip pens
  • A water spray bottle
  • Thick paper or cardstock with a pleasant texture

1. Draw a pattern or image onto the foam board, pressing grooves into it with your pencil.

NB! If you want to print text, make sure to draw it in reverse – this way it will appear correctly when printed.

2. Colour your design with watercolour markers or felt-tip pens.

3. Spray water onto the coloured surface to activate the colours and make them easier to transfer.

4. Place the foam board face-down onto your paper or card. Gently press and smooth it to ensure the design transfers evenly.

5. Repeat the process if you want to create a repeating pattern.

6. And that’s it – your artwork is ready!

This simple printing technique can also be used to make small creative stamps, perfect for decorating homemade wrapping paper or gift tags.
